AI raises the standard — expertise alone is no longer enough.

The discussion is no longer about whether artificial intelligence will transform the world of work. That has already happened. The uncomfortable question is a different one: what future does executive talent have when machines execute, analyze, and forecast much of the work more effectively? The answer is clear—though demanding. Executive talent does not disappear. What disappears is the comfort of leading the way we did before. What defined seniority for decades—technical expertise, accumulated knowledge, control of information—is now accessible, automatable, and scalable. The competitive advantage has shifted from knowing to thinking.

Artificial intelligence processes data, identifies patterns, simulates scenarios, and executes with precision. But it cannot think critically about the context in which it operates. It cannot innovate through intuition, the questioning of assumptions, or the creative reading of what does not yet exist. Nor can it make decisions while fully accounting for the human, cultural, and ethical impact of its choices.

AI executes.
Leadership decides. This is where the role of executive talent is being redefined—not as the accumulation of answers, but as the ability to interpret complex scenarios, connect disparate variables, and challenge what is established in order to build something new. The value no longer lies in quick answers, but in deep questions. Not in replicating past success formulas, but in imagining possible paths in unprecedented contexts. In this new paradigm, critical thinking and innovation cease to be differentiators and become conditions for executive leadership survival. The smarter technology becomes, the more central human judgment grows. The real risk is not AI.  The risk is leadership that limits itself to executing what others—or something—have already thought through. This is the starting point. Because if leadership is no longer defined by answers, the next question becomes inevitable: how do you lead when there are no right answers?
